YAYOI KUSAMA
For this project, the objective was to create a promotional poster for a conceptual or existing gallery showcase. The only requirement was that fictional shows had to be “held” at an actual gallery. The Frist Art Museum was chosen to support local establishments. With the museum’s recent curating of big-name-artists, such as Vincent van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, and Francisco Goya, it made sense to visualize the iconic contemporary artist Yayoi Kusama as the next grand exhibition: To Infinity & Beyond. To promote this conceptual showcase, a poster and pamphlet were created. The poster is sized at 11x14” or 22x28”. Its central focus is the experimental typography that spells out the artist’s first name in a distorted manner. The color palette is limited to red, white, and black–a homage to Kusama’s art style. The background is a deconstruction of the artist’s Infinity Net paintings.
